A little bit of background information about us, for those who like a back story!
Myself (John) and my partner Steph have always had a love for exploring. I have been all over the World on my various travels, but during covid and with Steph not being a keen flyer, we really took the chance to explore what was essentially “on our doorstep”. This love started with a trip for 2-3 weeks around the North Coast 500, Scotland! We couldn’t believe our luck with the weather – we truly could have been anywhere in the world! Stunning!
For my 35th Birthday Steph decided to book a stay in Port Isaac, just a long weekend. We have always been fans of the well-known TV series, Doc Martin and combined with my love for Seafood and travelling the country to devour my body weight in Lobster and Oysters, Steph thought this would be the perfect gift.
Little did we know exactly how much we would fall in love with the area. We sampled the local cuisine in as many restaurants as possible, took ourselves on long coastal walks to take in the breath-taking scenery, adopted “sweetheart lobsters” from the hatchery in Padstow, organised a Doc Martin tour of Port Isaac AND delved into the history of Port Quinn. Port Isaac is truly a beautiful place and there was nothing we wanted more than to return and as soon as possible! Whilst sitting having a coffee at the Cornish Cove Tearooms, we spotted a property which was for sale – I suddenly had what I can only describe as a lightbulb moment – “Steph, why don’t we buy a property here?”
That one sentence led us to many hours of scrolling through the local estate agents’ websites and we actually in fact returned 2 weeks later with a line-up of viewings. Unfortunately, these properties didn’t quite match what we had wanted, until I went for a stroll one morning and stumbled across Kildare! I immediately contacted the estate agents and they sent through all the relevant information, and after viewing the rest is history – it was perfect in every way!
The friendly locals, it’s location to the array of eateries and shops and the fact it was quirky and quaint with modern interior, but still with touches of the history behind the property, it just fitted the bill. We hope that you will LOVE Kildare as much as we do – it was certainly love at first sight, and we had finally found our “happy place away from home”. We do hope you will agree!
